BARC OCES and DGFS Training Programmes Overview

OCES training will begin in August 2026, while DGFS candidates will pursue M.Tech. starting in July 2026 and later undergoing a four-month orientation course.

Stipend and Pay Details

During training, both OCES Trainee Scientific Officers and DGFS Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of ₹74,000. OCES trainees will also get a one-time book allowance of ₹30,000. DGFS Fellows will receive reimbursement of tuition fees, contingency grants, and project-related funding as prescribed.

After the appointment, candidates will be placed as Scientific Officer in Level 10 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, with a basic pay of ₹56,100. With allowances and increments, the total monthly emoluments at joining may reach approximately ₹1.35 lakh, depending on the place of posting.

Selection Process for BARC Scientist 2026

Selection for OCES and DGFS is a two-stage process.

  • First, candidates are screened either through an online screening examination or based on a valid GATE score of 2024, 2025, or 2026.
  • Second, shortlisted candidates are called for a selection interview, which will be conducted primarily in Mumbai or Hyderabad, depending on the discipline.

The final selection is based solely on interview performance, subject to medical clearance.

Eligibility Criteria Overview

Engineering graduates must have B.E., B.Tech, B.Sc (Engineering), or Integrated M.Tech with at least 60% marks in the relevant discipline.
Science postgraduates must hold a Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biosciences, Geology, or Geophysics, meeting the specified academic requirements.

Only regular full-time degrees are eligible. Degrees obtained through distance learning, part-time or correspondence mode are not accepted.

Age Limit: The minimum age is 18 years, and the maximum age varies by category, with relaxation available as per government rules. Applicants must be Indian citizens.

BARC Scientist Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

The BARC Scientist selection is based on shortlisting candidates through either an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) or valid GATE scores. The screening test focuses on assessing the candidate’s technical knowledge in their selected discipline. Only those who qualify in the screening stage are invited for the interview. The final selection of BARC Scientists is based entirely on interview performance.

The OCES/DGFS-2026 selection process is carried out in two main stages, as explained below:

  1. Screening of Candidates: Candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in either the Online Screening Examination or through GATE scores.
    (i) Online Screening Examination: This is a CBT conducted at multiple examination centres across India. The screening exam is scheduled to take place on 14 and 15 March 2026.
    ii) GATE Score: Candidates holding valid GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 scores are eligible for screening through GATE. Applicants can apply using both screening modes to increase their chances of being shortlisted.
  2. Interview: Candidates shortlisted from the screening stage will be called for the selection interview, which will be held from 12 May 2026 to 12 June 2026. The interviews will be conducted in Mumbai or Hyderabad, depending on the candidate’s discipline. The final appointment is subject to fulfilling the prescribed medical fitness requirements.
